Water Damage Insurance

Posted on March 10, 2010.
Water Damage InsuranceDo Ontarians have the right when it comes to insurance claims for water damage?

We have a lot of water damage from a washing machine that rotted and leaking. We are told we must choose our new tiles from the samples given to us by the contractor the insurance adjuster, but we do not like everything he did. Are we obligated to go with its contractor. Also, we believe that the contractor is pulling the insurance company, because it charges a fortune for doing very little. Do we have rights as a person stating a claim in Ontario?

You do not have to use that contractor. While the insurer has the right to refuse certain contractors if they have had bad experiences with them in the past, the insurer can not force you to use someone you do not want. At this stage, the best thing to do is determine which contractor you want, then contact the expert in processing your application and inform them of the change. Keep in mind of an insurer may be willing to offer guarantees on the work of their subcontractors privileged, and if you decide to keep in mind that you may lose this advantage. If the insurer gives you all the pain to ask them to report the case in the formulation of policies, it says you have to use their repair facilities of the contractor (believe me, it is not there) .
