Small Business Insurance Coverage

Posted on February 21, 2010.
Small Business Insurance CoverageHow does auto insurance coverage work for a small business?

I am the only employee of my small business (a C Corp.). If I can rent a car through the company, rather than personally, how the change of insurance not it? Is the coverage is more expensive? What if the car is used 50% of the time for companies and 50% for pleasure? What if my wife is sometimes using the car for non-commercial?

The answers depend on the regulation of the company insuring you and your driving record. Any vehicle used for commercial purposes, regardless of whether it belongs to the company or not, is generally more expensive to insure, though. With the company I worked for it would not matter at all if it was leased in your name or the name of the company.

Contact your current auto insurer, tell them what you think of doing and they will be able to tell you how it would affect you.

Good luck!

Edited to add: Sorry to disagree, Isabella, but State Farm's written policies and personal with these companies use very frequently. As such his wife would be listed as an additional driver.

I think you should have asked this question to your insurance company before you pay for coverage.

If the car is rented in the name of society, I do not know of any insurance company that will give you a tourism policy for this - you'll need a commercial policy.

Unfortunately, for a passenger car, commercial policy is generally much more expensive than personal. On the insurance point of view, if you use the vehicle half a percent, it must be noted commercial, based on use.

And if your wife will use it personally, you need to its list as an operator on trade policy. Until you tell the company that is a personal use, it will be fine.
