Disability Insurance TorontoPosted on January 27, 2010. Is pregnancy considered a preexisting condition of disability in the short term? Hello, I'm super pregnant and feeling sick. I discovered two weeks later I went with my work Perm. In three months, I will benefit from STDs - short-term disability but it mentions in my briefcase insurance policy does not cover preexisting conditions STDs. My door is Sunlife. Would pregnancy be considered a preexisting condition and relieves me of the qualification for STDs? Suggestions? Thoughts? Would be very appreciated. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. One of my friends was in a similar situation and yes, they considered a preexisting condition, if you were pregnant before the benefits become available to you. I too am in Toronto, with my last pregnancy I went on STD, I was only about 2 or 3 months, but I was super sick. Obviously you'll need a doctor note to remove you from work. However, in 3 months, you may not need to go on STDs, especially if you're in the 2nd quarter. In addition, your benefits are based on your last 19 weeks of work, so your STD benefits are usually about 66% of your income, employment insurance are based on what you extrapolate and then gives you 66% of this. You will live with almost nothing. I would say if you could get your STD now, it would be great, but to wait 3 months, then go on disability, you hardly saw you. Pregnancy is not a reason to be on the short-term disability. You need a note from your doctor stating that you can not work because of it. And more than likely that he'll cut your maternity leave, depending on how your health insurance company is prepared. No, the insurers can not, by law, consider pregnancy a preexisting condition. And if the need arises that you need to use STD during pregnancy, yes it would be covered. they should have a manual or something that sets policy, or that you could try asking them probably not, but I want to talk with HR or heart std CommentsThere are no comments.Leave a Comment |
