| MarketplaceDisability Income Insurance QuotePosted on March 20, 2010. Question about short-term disability and maternity leave? So, I work for a small company (5 employees) and they do not currently offer short-term disability. I am interested in obtaining it, as my husband and I intend to get pregnant in the coming months. I just wanted to raise the issue at our company meeting this morning and was told to send an e-mail to the owner to look into it. His e-mail is a black hole of nothingness, so I do not expect to get anything done that way. So I started filling the whole 'Send me a price "for things on the site to send to myself. What I need you guys to have some information / comments that companies / Don 't offer the following:
1) Coverage of maternity 2) what% of income 3) for how long? (Normal 6 weeks, 8 weeks c-section?) 4) How long do you need to be a contractor before were covered 5) Is this your company or personal .. and if you can tell me how much it would be great
And insurance agents of you out there who can read this, we are located in Pennsylvania and looking for a reasonable quote, you may be able to offer. Most provide coverage for maternity at double the rate, but it will take at least 20 employees. You might not get maternity coverage with a group that small.
Percentage of income varies by state, it is usually 60% or 70%. The timing of the payment varies, too. Keep in mind, is not a maternity MOST "disability" issue - it is a normal process.
private disability insurance, you'll have to cover at least a year before becoming pregnant, the pregnancy to be covered - it is effectively a pre-paid plan, and you can make yourself the same.
I am an officer, I had three children, and I've never had a paid maternity leave or short-term disability insurance to cover a pregnancy.
Chances are, you're just going to pay yourself $ 200 a month or more, until you have enough in the kitty to cover your loss of income for anticipated absence of three months.
