Accident Insurance Rental Car

Posted on February 16, 2010.
Accident Insurance Rental CarYour auto insurance primary to extend rental cars? If yes, does it really cover all the costs of an accident?

Since I switched to Geico, I checked with them that my car insurance policy covers rental cars every time I rent. This is great because it allows me to make money by giving up all surcharges additional insurance companies hire per day. However, a recent alamo agent informed me even if I can save money and my primary carrier covers the rental car can sometimes Geico not cover everything. Such as "the replacement time." By the time lost to the rental company is working on Geico car when replacing a total loss of rental cars. This may be a hoax to me to buy insurance alamo but I wanted to know from those encountered should I worry? Is it really extend primary insurance for rental vehicles and they cover everything that I can meet if I was in an accident? Would my credit card rental car accident insurance cover what my blanket primary wouldnt? Thank curious ...

There are two types of coverage for your auto insurance, liability and physical damage (which would be a collision and comprehensive). In most states, the liability will be deferred on a temporary replacement vehicle, a rental car. Physical damage does not necessarily mean more, though.

In both cases, loss of use of the rental car, everything in the store, is not covered by your policy. In my experience, if you return a car with a scratch, the loss of "use" repair time is 3-4 days, and your credit card will be charged for 3-4 days, although never repair.

Thus, the primary insurance FOR the named insured will be deferred in most cases, for liability coverage. In many cases, also for the collision and comprehensive (although some companies are not as progressive in particular the transfer of physical damage to a temporary replacement vehicle). But the loss of rents are never covered.

You should check with your credit card company, but I've never heard of one covering the loss of rent, either.

Now, the bottom line - I do not recommend my clients buy disclaimer that coverage they like to sell, unless you rent a vehicle from the country. Then, the whole international thing is just too much pain to be treated (I will not tell you horror stories, but it is bad), just to save costs $ 5 per minute international to Europe, you will want to buy it.

Check with your agent to be sure. Nobody can answer here for sure.

It will vary from state to state. When I'm at it cover the entire cost of the rental and 60% if the loss of use. Sound like a great answer, but

Companies hire cars have a clause added to their large state contracts if you do not take their insurance and you do damage to the vehicle that you owe them the retail cost of a vehicle.

The insured has recently received a bill of more than 10,000. Car rental company went to buy a new car, sold the damaged vehicle and sent an invoice for the difference. There were only 4,000 of damage to the car and that is all the insurance company will pay.

Another person has reached a rental car and their insurance company paid for the damage. After a year they sold the vehicle and sent a bill for the year 2000. The loss they said they sold because they have a damaged vehicle.

I'd rather spend the little extra and buy their insurance and I know I can wreck the vehicle and it is their responsiblity, not yours.

You should ask your agent on this point. My car insurance covers all damages caused to a rental car, but it does not cover rental costs of lost time that the rental will be charged for the waiting car damaged to be repaired. Whether yours it covers or not depends on your policy, so the answer repeated FRO.
