Billboards contributing to car accidents We live in a capitalist world where we are bombarded with advertising everywhere we turn. When we walk in the street, turn on our TV or our cars, loud, distracting ads are placed before us. And these ads could cost lives.
A recent survey revealed that thirty percent of drivers in the United Kingdom say they have been distracted by an advertisement while driving. With inattentive drivers the main cause of car accidents today, all distractions are a serious problem.
Another study found that when we drive our cars, our eyes are on the road signs up to fifty percent of the time. It is indeed a disturbing character.
Drivers are not only distracted by advertising, but also by the large number of signs to help drivers. Bombarded with diagrams of roundabouts confusing, placed next to signs for tourist attractions and speed limits, it is easy to take your eyes off the road for a significant amount of time.
Especially dangerous are advertisements showing pictures of sexy lingerie models. The infamous Wonderbra ad posted around Britain in the 90s showing the model Eva Herzigova in her underwear is said to have been caused numerous car accidents.
When you consider that a driver traveling at 60 miles per hour was equivalent to the length of a football field in just 5 seconds, these distractions are very dangerous.
With all the evidence showing that advertising signage and poor can lead to accidents, companies that are attracting the attention of ads in the occupied areas can be held responsible for some of the accidents on our roads. There have been suggestions that the claims of injury may be brought against advertisers to put these signs in distracting places while knowing that the drivers attention from the road.
